All that I expected...and then some

When I was in college, I worked at a daycare. That job opened my eyes to how much work it is to care for a child. That job also made me think long and hard about whether or not I wanted to have any kiddos of my own. For almost 15 years (and most especially during my pregnancy), I thought a lot about what a huge responsibility it is to be a parent. And now that Alex is here, I realize that it is all the hard work and responsibility that I thought it would be. (And I know that it has only just begun.)

But it is also so much more than I ever could have imagined. Gone are the days of thinking "what have I done?!" They have replaced with wondering "what would I do without our little man?!"

Today our little man turns four weeks old. And apparently, at four weeks, he transitions from "newborn" to "infant." Who knew? Anyway, here are a few pics we shot today.

Tummy Time (more like "Torture Time" by the look on his face!)

Raise your hand if you're excited that Ganny and Gandpa are coming for a visit this weekend

Holding my paci all by myself (yes, this is a fluke - he doesn't really know how to hold his paci yet)

Parenting is the hardest job you will ever have... and, the most rewarding.

He REALLY doesn't appear to enjoy his tummy time... still. =/

Oh, he is soo adorable! I cannot believe I have not been able to smooch on him yet. I love the one with his hand raised and yall's clever lil captions for his pictures! I just laugh and laugh! Don't worry Isabel didn't like tummy time either...but I am pretty sure it was because her body weight was crushing her!!!! No, I don't know why but she never really cared for it. But nonetheless, she learned to roll over finally and I remember Aunt Sylba thought it was sooo funny! Love ya!

I got teary reading your post. Motherhood really is an indescribable experience, love and feeling! I'm so happy I get to share motherhood with you. I know we have many years to come of experiences to share and memories to make. I just knew you would fall in love with your little man as soon as you saw him. It doesn't take long for your heart to grow bigger as it fills with unconditional love for your child! I'm so happy for you guys!

You are absolutely right -- who could imagine how parenthood would totally transform our lives in such wonderful ways. It is the greatest joy (and hardest job) imaginable. Your little man is so lucky to have you guys as his parents!
