Chatting with Pops about Mia, Benny, and Ava Claire (the dogs)

Pops calms Roo's fears about the dogs while Benny waits attentively

For much of his life, Roo has been drawn to dogs. But mostly at a distance. Because if they got too close, he would scream in fear.

But our last few visits to Pops and Nana's have worked wonders for Roo's courage. Pops and Nana have three dogs who are great with kids. And Pops and Nana have been very intentional about teaching him how to approach dogs and reach his hand out to let the dogs smell his hand to get comfortable with him before he pets them.

Well, he was just so proud of himself for petting those dogs. He would come up and tell us all about his "accomplishments." Now he's gotten so brave that anytime he sees a "soft, sute (cute) puppy," he walks right up to ask if he can pet it. "Look, mommy! He's so sute!," he'll say to me.

If you know me at all, then you know that dogs are not my favorite. Pets of any kind are not my favorite, actually. You watch. Roo will LOVE dogs and BEG for one one day. #notgonnacavenomatterhowsute
