The Wise Owl and The Busy Bee

This year, we have one Wise Owl and one Busy Bee.

Here is our Wise Owl. He's been looking forward to becoming a Wise Owl since the end of his Honey Bear year this past spring.

While many of his friends have made the leap into kindergarten, we decided to wait one more year. With summer birthdays for both boys, we're opting for a six-year kindergarten start. I wholeheartedly believe that we've made the best decision for our family, but I'll admit that it's been a little difficult for me to watch almost all of his friends move on to the next chapter. He knows that many of his friends are starting kindergarten this year, but he seems to be content with where he's at – and that sets my heart at ease.

The Wise Owl pre-k class is five days a week, and it is proving to be a bit of an adjustment for me. Getting all of us ready for next year, I suppose. I told Jerry that "living the dream" isn't quite what it used to be. LOL! Alex also gets to stay for "lunch bunch" one day a week, followed by the school's science club. He is definitely a fan of science "experience" (his way of saying, "experiments"). ;-) I thought this might be a fun option for him after he attended Science Camp this summer and had a blast. It was by far his favorite camp that he attended.

And here is our Busy Bee. He is on cloud nine now that he's in a class that has an official name. And, of course, he's chomping at the bit to be a Wise Owl, too. Not so fast, buddy. Not so fast.

He was quite pleased that he got to be snack leader the first week of school. Not only did he get to bring snack for all of his classmates, he also got to bring a toy for show and tell, and he got to select the stamp that the teacher stamps on the kids' hands at the end of the day. His toy was his new battery powered pet chihuahua named Chi-Chi, and he selected a cupcake stamp "because he likes cupcakes." Of course he does – he is my child, after all. ;-)

He was a little apprehensive to go in at first, but after a couple of minutes, he warmed right up. Now he hardly even looks back! Better that way than the other, I suppose. He's attending three days a week this year, and his schedule includes music class and a bible story time in the chapel once a week.

I am excited for what this school year holds for these boys. No doubt, it will pass all too quickly for me.
